Maharaja Kharak Singh (Punjabi: ਖੜਕ ਸਿੰਘ, 22 February 1801 – 5 November 1840), was a Sikh ruler of the Punjab and the Sikh Empire. He succeeded his father Ranjit Singh in June 1839. ==Life== He was the son of Ranjit Singh and Maharani Datar Kaur. He received the principality of Jammu as his jagir in 1812, and was appointed by his dying father as Heir Apparent with the title of Tika Sahib Bahadur, 20 June 1839. He was proclaimed Maharaja on the death of his father, 27 June 1839, and installed on the throne at Lahore Fort, 1 September 1839. He was dethroned and imprisoned 8 October 1839 and replaced by his son Prince Nau Nihal Singh.
